I do like to be beside the seaside

August Bank Holiday Monday... What shall we do?
I fancy fish and chips.. but not any old fish and chips.
I want fish and chips by the seaside... so we drive out to Southwold.

By the time we arrive the sun is shining so we park near the pier and walk along the promenade past the wonderful colourful beach huts all the way to the harbour.

And there we queue for about 45 minutes to get the best fish and chips ever, which we eat from a box whilst sitting on the jetty.

We then stroll back along the prom in the sunshine watching the holidaymakers, stopping by local shops and galleries, finish with a walk down the pier and then head back home. It felt like the perfect way to wind up the summer... after all there is change in the air.

  10. Perfect way to mark the end of summer. I love Southwold - we drove through it on our way home from Aldeburgh many years ago and I've always regretted not getting back there again.

  11. Given your recent history, were there any medical incidents involving fish bones?

  12. We visited Southwold for the first time last week & will definitely be back. Unfortunately we had the dogs with us & they didn't like the town so we shall visit without them next time

  15. Summer? SUMMER!!!!????
It poured with rain here all bank holiday and was freezing cold.
    How terribly tasteful Southwold is.
I went once a very long time ago. I remember a car park that said 'no picnicking'.

  16. Just a thimbleful....
Gina, it sounds as though you and I had similar Bank holiday Mondays - nothing is nicer than being by the water! I must admit I hovered over the fish and chips on the menu, but went for chicken instead with my waistline in mind! YOU don't have to worry!

  20. Southwold, I have had lovely times there, I often have flash backs to when I as about 11. I fell into the boating lake! But then I did stand up in a canoe, so I deserved it. But it gave my brother and my cousin a good laugh, and it still does!
Believe it or not I still go back, but not to the boating lake!

  21. That was my intention too, Gina, but ti didn't happen, maybe next w/e.
Lovely nostalgic post, love the beach huts, not too keen on the idea of summer being at an end, I hate the winter.
