I met the girls for knitting yesterday... except we didn't knit... we played hookey instead. A little while ago I made myself this crochet heart having seen Lucy's pretty version on her blog. The instructions for the heart (not actually Lucy's) were a little tricky to follow, so I wrote them out again making a few tweaks here and there. (Lucy's pattern for the rose and leaves were spot on!) When Gill saw my heart hanging on my dresser she asked if I could show her how to make it... so that is how our knitting group turned into a crochet group for the morning!
Armed with hooks, yarn and mugs of coffee we had a fun morning, chatting, laughing, hooking... and eating... except Gill that is, who was concentrating so hard that we didn't hear a peep out of her all morning! Most unusual... it was bliss! (It meant she couldn't be rude to me which she usually is)
And I finished another heart, so there are now two hanging on my dresser.
Afterwards we had a wander down to The Creative Sanctuary where I bought more yarn for a new knitting project, despite the fact that in January I vowed that there would be no more new yarn or new projects until I'd finished all the others I've got on the go... so much for resolutions. And Gill encouraged me to make another unecessary purchase (if you follow the link don't believe what she tells you it was definitely her fault)... but you'll have to wait for another day until I show you that!
It was a perfect morning really... good friends, lots and lots of laughter, brunch, crochet and a little bit of unecessary shopping thrown in at the end. It doesn't get much better.

Sounds right up my street and the hearts are so pretty. I have knitted myself no less than three cardigans this winter and mustn't make any more. However I have just learned that my daughter and her husband would like some socks, so I have some more knitting to look forward to!

Sometimes you just have to start a new project. I learnt to crochet thid week, only the basics but I'm hooked. Looking forward to my next lesson on Monday, to learn some more complex stitches.

Those hearts are so pretty. I'm not much good at knitting or crochet. Daughter no.2 was trying her hand at learning to crochet over Christmas. She had to resort to Youtube videos after my 'instructions' failed to help!

Lovely heart there Gina, and like you I think that Attic 24 is a brilliant source of designs and easily understood instructions. I too am (in theory) trying to finish large projects off but have deviated slightly this weekend due to trying Lucy's "join as you go" technique........
I prefer crochet to knitting but cannot hold the work correctly like Gill is demonstrating. I don't know if it because I'm left handed and taught myself but I hold the hook static and move the work instead. Ridiculous I know but I am neat.... honest. The hearts look lovely Gina but I must not be sidetracked into making one...
